NSF-funded Postdoc & Graduate Student Positions in AI and Biodiversity Change

The Jarzyna lab at The Ohio State University is currently seeking applications for two positions: one graduate student and one postdoctoral researcher. These opportunities are part of a National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded project centered on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Biodiversity Change, within the broader collaboration known as the AI and Biodiversity Change (ABC) Global Climate Center. This collaborative effort brings together ecologists and computer scientists from six universities in the United States and Canada, along with international partners in the UK, Europe, and Australia. The aim is to develop innovative AI-enabled approaches to understand the impact of climate change on Earth’s biodiversity.

Research Focus

The successful candidates will be part of the Jarzyna lab and work closely with collaborators from institutions such as OSU, University of Pittsburg, MIT, McGill University, University of Guelph, and University of British Columbia. The research focus spans the exciting intersection of AI and biodiversity science. While the positions offer thematic flexibility, potential areas of interest include leveraging machine and deep learning for monitoring species distributions, integrating biodiversity records from diverse sources, and using AI methods to extract trait information from images. The emphasis is on question-driven research and creative proposals aligned with the overarching theme of AI and biodiversity science.
